What we do
The Combative Alliance training method
At The Combative Alliance our mission is to provide locations where people can come together, regardless of experience or style, to train and improve in all ranges of combat against resisting opponents.
In doing so we hope to allow you to discover your strengths & weaknesses
and improve yourself, not only in martial arts but in life in general.
To do this we teach basic skills covering all ranges and modes and use a system
of progressive resistance to build self confidence and allow you to find what
works for you
in a SAFE and ALIVE environment. The aim is to allow you to find YOUR own way
and reach YOUR potential, not try to force you into a mould that worked for
someone else and has no relation to you.
We minimise the use of foreign terminology and use our native language, English, whenever possible. When the Japanese took some of their martial arts techniques from Okinawa and China they gave them Japanese names. When the Koreans took some Japanese martial arts techniques from the Japanese they gave them Korean names. We are merely continuing that tradition as it is one of the few martial arts traditions that makes perfect sense.
Your progress is measured by your performance against your sparring partners. Rather than using a system based on someone telling you that you have learned X,Y & Z so here's a belt to wear, you use the same method of evaluation that other combat athletes like boxers & wrestlers use e.g. If you are getting hit less and are hitting people more - you have improved! This verification from within is much more valuable to your self esteem and personal growth than any certificate or belt.
Our primary training methods come from the following sources...
Weapons Training:
Weapons
training lies at the very heart of what we do. Our weapons training comes
from...
Dog Brother Martial Arts - which in itself is a "System of many styles" including Inosanto/LaCoste Kali, Krabi-Krabong, Lameco and others.
Doce Pares Eskrima - a multi style system using many weapons configurations and training methods
Unarmed Training:
Although primarily a weapons based group - we draw from the modern "Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)" blend of Muay Thai, Western Boxing, Wrestling, Brazillian Ju-Jitsu, Submission Grappling etc but also use elements of Jun Fan Gung Fu and the unarmed phases of the various Filipino Martial Arts that we study.
In summary:
We hope to develop an environment where you won't find a "classical mess", but instead find a group of people brought together by a desire to train in a realistic manner without ego or ritual for the benefit of all concerned.
